David Gettis

David Gettis was appointed as the Falcons’ Wide Receiver coach in August 2017.  Gettis’ previous coaching experience included being a Graduate Assistant at his alumni Baylor University, where he also played Wide Receiver.

Gettis concluded his college career ranked seventh all-time at BU in career receiving yards with 1,555; tied for eighth all-time in receptions with 116; finished eighth in BU history with 22.73 career kick return average; ninth all-time with 932 career kick return yards and tied for 10th with 41 career kick returns. Gettis was BU’s first ever commitment to play in U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He graduated from Baylor University with a BS in Health, Kinesiology and Leisure Studies.

In 2010, Gettis was invited to the NFL Combine where he was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 6th round (198th overall) of the 2010 NFL Draft.  He finished the 2011 season with a team-high 3 touchdown catches, as well as 508 receiving yards on 37 catches, which ranked as second and third on the team, respectively. He also returned 8 kickoffs for 145 yards, and recorded an 88-yard touchdown reception against Baltimore in week 11 – the second longest touchdown reception in Panthers history.  His NFL career was cut short due to a lingering ACL injury.

Gettis was also a standout track athlete in high school. He was the first-ever three-time CIF California State Meet champion (2003, 2004, 2005) in the 400 metres for Susan Miller Dorsey High School in Los Angeles. He was named 2005 Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year by the Los Angeles Times. He also anchored Dorsey's victorious 4 x 400 meter relay team, and ran second leg of its gold-medal 4 x 100 meter relay team at the 2005 state meet.
