2024-25 (Senior):
Named to the 2024-25 LSC Preseason Players to Watch list... Named named Second-Team All-LSC... Started in all 28 games... Led the Falcons in scoring (17.0 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg), made field goals (160) and made free throws (138)... Was also second on the team in blocks (18) and was third in assists per game (2.5 apg) and total steals (36)... He led the Falcons in points (476) and rebounds (180) and was second in minutes (994) and free throw percentage (.841)...Shot 84.1 percent (138-164) at the free throw line and 51.6 percent (160-310) from the field while making 18 of his 59 3-point attempts (30.5 percent)... Scored in double digits in all but two games on the season... Scored at least 20 points in a game seven times, twice recorded 13 rebounds in game, and had four double-doubles during a six-game span... Had season-highs of 31 points vs. UT Tyler (Feb. 20), 13 rebounds on two occassions, five assists on two occasions, and four steals vs. Washburn (Dec. 18)... Shot 10-for18 from the field, 2-for-4 from three and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line while scoring a season-high 31 points and adding seven rebounds, four assists and three blocks as UTPB earned an 80-58 home victory over UT Tyler (Jan. 20) just one game before his Senior Day on Thursday. It was the most points in a game for Matthews since scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in a 90-70 win at home over Western New Mexico last season. In addition, it was the second time in his two seasons at UTPB he has made nine or more free throws without a miss after shooting 10-for-10 from the line in the contest before the WNMU game, a 79-76 win over Eastern New Mexico... Then shot 17-for-18 from the free throw line while scoring a game-high 27 points and pulling down seven boards for the second game in a row against No. 5-ranked Dallas Baptist (Feb. 22) during his Senior Day on Saturday. Matthews would scored 20 ofh is 27 points on Senior Day in the second half... Was named UTPB's Edgardo Madrid & Associates Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for December after averaging 15.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.8 steals and shooting 53.6 percent from the field across six games in December. He recorded a team-high in rebounds in five of the team's six games during the month... Was also named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, February 2, 2025, after averaging 23.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to fuel a 2-0 week against Western New Mexico (Jan. 30) and Sul Ross State (Feb. 1)... Led the LSC in made free throws and ranked second in total minutes... Was 46th nationally in minutes per game... His other rankings in the LSC include coming in third in total points (476), fourth in free throw percentage and rebounds per game, fifth in scoring average, seventh in field goal percentage and made field goals, and eighth in offensive rebounds (68)... In the UTPB record books, Matthews' 138 made free throws this season rank sixth while his 240 free throws over the last two seasons rank third all-time.
2023-24 (Junior):
Played and started in 28 games… Averaged 13.5 points per game (378 total points; led the team in both total points and points per game) while shooting 51.2 percent from the floor, 37.2 percent from three and 85.7 percent from the free throw line… Additionally averaged 4.9 rebounds (138 total rebounds; second on the team in both total rebounds and rebounds per game) and 1.4 assists per game (38 total assists; fifth on the team in total assists)… Led the team with 102 made free throws and was second with 130 made field goals... His season highs include 32 points vs. Western NM (Jan. 6), two games of 11 rebounds, 5 assists vs. Navajo Tech (Dec. 18), and 3 steals vs. Midwestern State (Jan. 20)... Scored in double figures 18 times including four games of 20 or more points... In the LSC he was fifth in Free Throw percentage (.857)... Was named Third-Team All-LSC.
Gulf Coast State (2022-23):
Played in 27 games, drawing the start in 25 … Averaged 16.22 points, 6.11 rebounds and 2.63 assists while shooting 48.4% from the floor and 83.2% from the line … Has 23 double-digit scoring games … Scored a career-high 23 points against Pensacola State (Jan. 7) … All-Panhandle Conference second team.
Evansville (2020-21):
Saw action in six games.
John Hardin High School (Ky.):
Scored 1746 points and had 1101 rebounds, only the second player in school history to accomplish that … As a senior averaged 23.5 points and 10.6 rebounds and led the Bulldogs to go 30-4 … Gatorade Kentucky Basketball Player of the Year … Two-time News-Enterprise Area Player of the Year.
