In January 2025, The University of Texas Permian Basin welcomed new Pitching Coach Ryan Slaton to its staff.

He was previously the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator for Dawson Community College in Glendive, Montana. He arrived at Dawson fresh off the 2023 D3 NJCAA Region 20 Championship as the Pitching Coach/Recruiting Coordinator/Director of Advanced Scouting for Prince George’s Community College in Largo, Maryland.

A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he began his coaching career as the Varsity Pitching Coach for 5A Walker High School in Walker, Louisiana. He also taught students with significant disabilities and autism after moving to Maryland to serve as an assistant coach for the Prince George Community College Owls. He became an Associate MLB Scout for the Kansas City Royals, a role that has him assessing high school, junior college, and four year university baseball players in 14 states and the District of Columbia for the Major League Baseball Draft. He is credited with finding the Royals 2024 18th round pick Corey Cousin as a sophomore at Slidell High School in Slidell, Louisiana. Coach Slaton is currently working with his third Royals Area Scout covering North Dakota, South Dakota, Wyoming, Kansas, Nebraska, and Arkansas.

Coach Slaton pitched at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Mississippi, and at NCAA Division I Nicholls State University in Thibodeaux, Louisiana.

He is married to Carrie-Anne Slaton.
