Women’s soccer falls at St. Mary’s

SAN ANTONIO, Texas. (September 12, 2026) – The first road match of the season for The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team saw the Falcons fall 3-1 at St. Mary's University.

UTPB (3-2-0 overall, 0-2-0 Lone Star Conference) battled to a 1-1 score at the half after the second goal this season by freshman Kally Calcaterra to knot the score in the 18th minute. Calcaterra found an empty net when goalkeeper Molly Lyons came out to block the ball and Calcaterra stole it from her.

However, after originally opening the scoring in the 12th minute, StMU freshman Helen Lazaro would not be denied in the second half, adding two more goals in the 53rd and 63rd minutes to record the hat trick and send UTPB home still looking for its first conference win of the season.

UTPB was outshot 11-3 in the second half and was held to without a corner kick or a shot on goal during the final period.

Seven Falcons recorded a single shot attempt in the match, with the only other shot on goal in addition to Calcaterra's coming from Mariela Ojeda in the 41st minute.

The Rattlers are coming off a 9-6-3 2025 campaign and a trip to the LSC quarterfinals, and were picked to finish sixth in the LSC race this season. St. Mary's has scored 14 goals in its first six matches of the season, and 12 of them are by true freshmen.

Week two of LSC action will see the Falcons play at The University of Texas at Tyler starting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, before finishing off the week at home against Eastern New Mexico University starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 19.
