ODESSA, Texas (April 29, 2026) – Freshman
Nehal Naidoo of The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team has been named the Lone Star Conference Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week for the final week of the regular season.
Naidoo earned a nationally-ranked win – over No. 18 – in his final match of the season, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2), against No. 10 Lubbock Christian. Naidoo finished the season on a five-match winning streak. The victory against LCU at No. 2 singles was the Falcons' first over a ranked opponent this year. Naidoo also led UTPB with 10 singles wins.
It is the second straight weekly LSC award to wrap up the season for Naidoo, who last week was named to the LSC Men's Tennis Doubles Team of the Week along with fellow-freshman
Joao D'Amorim.
Naidoo is the first UTPB tennis player to win the LSC Singles Player of the Week award since the award split into separate singles and doubles designations prior to the start of the current season.
"I am very proud of Nehal," spoke UTPB Head Coach
Chris Tolson. "He has competed well all season playing close matches, but over the last month, you could really see him start to become a more mature and different player on the court. It is exciting to see him win this award as we finish out last week of the season. Nehal and this team's future is bright, and I look forward to seeing what he is able to accomplish this year."
