Men’s tennis sweeps Sul Ross in final road match

ALPINE, Texas (April 18, 2026) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's tennis team swept Sul Ross State University 7-0 in its final road match of the season.

Six of the nine matches were shutouts for the Falcons.

Lucas Nakasato and Enrique Silveira (No. 3 doubles) and Philipp Gaurieder and Andrew Hunsley (No. 2 doubles) won the first two doubles matches without dropping a game.

It was the first win together this season for Nakasato and Silveira while Gaurieder and Hunsley improved to 2-0 when playing together.

Joao D'Amorim and Nehal Naidoo won 6-1 at No. 1 singles to improve to 4-2 at No. 1 singles.

Also not dropping a game in singles was Hunsley in the three hole, Naidoo in the two spot, Christian Lopez in the four spot and Silveira at No. 5 singles.

Naidoo leads the Falcons with nine singles wins so far this season.

For the first time this season, Hunsley played No. 3 singles and Lopez, who earned his second win of the year, played No. 4 singles.

D'Amorim earned his fifth win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-2 decision.

Sebastian Garcia picked up his first win of the season with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles. He did the same thing with the exact same score at No. 5 singles a year ago vs. Joseph Rangel, who is now the Lobos' No. 2 singles player.

  • With their 10th straight win and eighth straight sweep over the Lobos, the Falcons improve to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in the Lone Star Conference. SRSU falls to 0-10 and 0-6, and has yet to win a match this season (all 7-0 defeats).
  • The Falcons have just one more match remaining in the season.
 
Weekend Combined Statistical Leaders:
  • Joao D'Amorim and Nehal Naidoo were 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.
  • Philipp Gaurieder and Andrew Hunsley were 2-0 in doubles with wins at both No. 2 and No. 3.
  • D'Amorim was 2-0 at No. 1 singles.
  • Nehal Naidoo won twice in singles, winning at both the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
  • D'Amorim and Naidoo both led the Falcons with perfect 4-0 combined records on the weekend.

Next Up: UTPB will close out the regular season at home vs. No. 10 Lubbock Christian University starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, at the Bush Tennis Center in Midland, Texas.
