PLANO, Texas (March 9, 2026) – The UT Permian Basin men's tennis team fell 4-1 vs. No. 38 nationally-ranked Ouachita Baptist University on Sunday, March 8, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center (TCU Indoor Courts). Then in its third match of its Spring Break trip on Monday, March 9, UTPB fell 4-0 against Hawaii Pacific University in a match played at Collin College.
Sebastian Garcia made his Spring debut against OBU, teaming up with
Lucas Nakasato in a competitive 6-4 loss to Yarin Aebi and Ramon Strassmann at No. 2 doubles.
Nehal Naidoo and
Kabir Chothani battled to a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles, but came up short 7-6 (7-3) against the No. 12 nationally-ranked doubles team of Aaron Osmond and Moritz Buss. During the Fall season, Osmond and Buss were a tiebreaker away from winning the ITA central region doubles championship.
Naidoo then earned this team-leading third singles win of the Spring season with a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Osmond at No. 3 singles.
Joao D'Amorim fell 6-3, 6-4 in a close battle against Strassmann (No. 65 nationally-ranked singles player) at No. 1 singles.
Then against HPU,
Philipp Gaurieder and D'Amorim won the first match, 6-3, vs. Matteo Perrod and Adam Vasir at No. 3 doubles before Nakasato and Garcia fell 6-4 for the second match in a row at No. 2 doubles and Naidoo and Chothani fell in a tiebreaker for the second match in a row at No. 1 doubles. Gaurieder and D'Amorim are now 3-1 together at No. 3 doubles.
In singles against the Sharks, Naidoo fell 6-4, 7-5 vs. Ethan Terry in the No. 3 spot while Chothani fell 6-4, 6-3 vs. Seth Newman in the No. 4 spot. Meanwhile, D'Amorim and
Enrique Silveira had both forced a third set at No. 1 and No. 6 singles, respectively, before HPU reached its fourth point of the match.

- UTPB moves to 1-8.
- OBU improves to 9-1. Last season, the Tigers finished the year ranked No. 25 nationally following the program's 17th appearance at the NCAA round of 16 and a final record of 15-10. That team won the MIAA/GAC South Division title with a perfect 4-0 record. The Tigers started this season 6-0 before falling to No. 21 Mississippi College by the same score UTPB did earlier this year (6-1).
- Hawaii Pacific is 5-3. Last year was a successful season for the Sharks as they competed in the PacWest tournament and earned a trip to a regional. They also won moment of the year at the Sharkys awards with a thrilling victory over their crosstown rivals, the University of Hawaii, at the start the year.
