The University of Texas Permian Basin softball program is excited to announce the addition of
Brooke Johnson as its newest assistant coach. At just 22 years old, Johnson brings fresh energy, a strong playing background, and a passion for athlete development to the Falcons' coaching staff.
A 2024 graduate of Henderson State University, Johnson played softball for four years with the Reddies while completing both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees. While this marks her first official collegiate coaching position, she has been giving lessons and coaching travel ball teams for several years, building a foundation of leadership and player development experience.
"UTPB was the perfect place for me to start my coaching career.," said Johnson. "Coming to UTPB allowed me to have a fresh start while also being relatively in my comfort zone since I am coaching with Coach Martinez, who I played three years of my college career for. The opportunity to rebuild a program with him was very exciting, and I knew I could not pass it up. Everything fell into place, and I knew this was where God wanted me to be."
In her new role, Johnson is eager to contribute both on and off the field.
"I am most excited to make an impact, meet new people, work with the girls, and help the girls have a great year on and off the field," said Johnson. "I want to make their experience at UTPB something they look back on with joy, and I want them to leave the program better than when they came."Â
For Johnson, one of the most rewarding aspects of coaching is being able to influence the lives of student-athletes.
Johnson said, "My favorite thing about being a coach is the impact that you make on the athletes. I love helping shape them into better people and helping them prepare for the world ahead of them. I also love getting to push them to reach potentials they did not even know they had. Getting to work closely with the athletes to help develop them into better players and people will always be one of my favorite parts of coaching."
The Falcons are excited to welcome Coach
Brooke Johnson to Odessa and look forward to the positive impact she will bring to the program as the team continues to grow under new Head Coach
David Martinez's leadership.
