Scull gets the chance to play professional baseball

Falcon alum puts together strong first regular season

ODESSA, Texas (August 5, 2025) – Following a standout senior season at The University of Texas Permian Basin, Kaleb Scull is tearing it up in the Pecos League, playing shortstop and hitting leadoff for the Garden City Wind.

The Pecos League is an independent baseball league which operates in cities in desert mountain regions throughout Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. Pecos League teams play in cities that do not have Major or Minor League Baseball teams and is not affiliated with either. In the original 2011 season, the Pecos League was based along the Pecos River from Alpine, Texas to Roswell, New Mexico. The Pecos League has two divisions (Mountain Division, Pacific Division) which stretch from the plains of Kansas to the Oceans of California to the Mexican Border of Texas. The Garden City Wind are a member of the Pecos League Mountain Division and play at Clint Lightner Field in Garden City, Kansas.

At the end of the 2025 regular season, Scull's team finished in first place in the Mountain North standings with a record of 43-7 (.860 pct.), the best in all of the Pecos League. Throughout the year, Scull appeared in 47 games with 197 at bats, and hit .274 with 55 runs, 54 hits, 11 doubles, one triple, three home runs, 45 RBI's, 39 walks, 12 hit by pitches and seven stolen bases. He was top-three on his team in at bats, RBI's and doubles. He averaged 1.15 hits per game and nearly one (0.96) RBI per game.

"This summer has gone great, not as good as college, there has been a lot of learning involved," spoke Scull. "UTPB taught me how to deal with success and failure and that is the biggest thing I have brought with me to the next level."

UTPB Head Baseball Coach Justin Phillips said, "The ebb and flows of a long season are never a concern for Kaleb. He in that sense really is a professional and carries himself extremely well. We are proud that he represents our program the way that he does. We wish him all the best."

In his lone season at UTPB in 2025, Scull started in all 50 games and played primarily as the Falcons' starting shortstop. He hit .342 with 51 runs, 65 hits, 21 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 32 RBI's, 21 walks, three hit by pitches and seven steals across 190 at bats. He was first on the team in at bats, hits, doubles, home runs, steals and total bases (110), and was third in the Lone Star Conference in doubles.
