Johnson named all-conference for third straight season

ODESSA, Texas (May 7, 2025) – Senior Carson Johnson of The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team has been named Third-Team All-Lone Star Conference as a utility player for the 2025 season. It is his third straight all-conference nod after being named to the second-team in both 2023 and 2024 as a second baseman.

Johnson was one of four Falcons to start in all 50 games this season, starting 26 games at second base and 24 at third base. He also moved over to play first base in six games and batted in the three-hole in the Falcons' lineup in 46 games. He led the team in runs scored (52), triples (4), runs batted in (53) and slugging percentage (.613); and was second in batting average (.381), at bats (168), hits (64), doubles (16), total bases (103), walks (24) and on-base percentage (.463). He also added five home runs and had five hit by pitches, five sacrifice hits and four sacrifice flies. Defensively, he recorded 98 assists and 62 putouts in 177 chances, and helped turn 22 double plays.

Johnson set a new career-high in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI's, slugging percentage and on-base percentage. He was second on the team with 20 multi-hit games and had 15 games with a least two runs scored and 15 games with at least two RBI's. He also led the team with a 21-game reached base streak (Feb. 28-Apr. 7), and reached base safely in each of the final 12 games of the season (Apr. 12-27). Lastly, Johnson recorded at least four RBI's in six of UTPB's 12 series throughout the season, and had at least four runs scored in six series as well.

The Falcons won their home opener against Texas A&M International University (Feb. 7), 4-3, thanks to a walk off two-run single in the bottom of the ninth inning by Johnson. Johnson hit .500, led the team with 11 RBI's and eight hits, and tied for the team-lead in runs scored (6) and walks (3) during UTPB's home series-split against Eastern New Mexico University (Mar. 7-9). He also added a pair of doubles, a triple and an inside-the-park home run against the Greyhounds. He had at least two RBI's and one hit in all four games against ENMU. Johnson was 3-for-3 at the plate with five RBI's, three runs scored, two walks, a three-run double and an inside-the-park home run in a 14-4 seven-inning victory over ENMU in game three of the series, and finished just a triple shy of the cycle. In all, he had six RBI-hits on the weekend against the Greyhounds. After helping lead the Falcons to their first four-game sweep of the season at Sul Ross State University (Apr. 4-7), Johnson was named the Lone Star Conference Hitter of the Week. Johnson hit .571 with two home runs, four doubles and 11 RBI's against the Lobos. Johnson also scored 13 runs – including at least two in each game – and walked six times (once intentionally). His on-base percentage was .700 and he struck out just once. Johnson homered and doubled to lead a 15-14 extra-inning win in game three to secure the series. He played errorless defense with time at third base, second base and first base.
