Building on their strong academic performance in the fall, UT Permian Basin student-athletes once again delivered in the classroom, posting a cumulative department GPA of 3.10 for the Spring 2025 semester.
Out of 207 student-athletes, an impressive 48 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA while 134 achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"It was another excellent semester for Falcons in the classroom. I continue to be impressed by the work that our student-athletes do in the classroom," said Vice President of Athletics Scott Larson.
Leading the way were the women's cross country, women's tennis, and women's basketball teams. Women's cross country recorded the highest team GPA at 3.66, closely followed by women's tennis at 3.65 and women's basketball at 3.59.
Academic excellence extended beyond team averages, as 43 student-athletes earned individual academic honors (Academic All-Conference, RMAC Academic Honor Roll, CSC Academic All-District, NFF Hampshire Honor Society). Among them were Emma Gerhart from the women's swimming and diving program and Brooke Runyan from women's tennis program. Gerhart was named Academic All-Conference in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with a 3.77 GPA, while Runyan earned the same recognition in the Lone Star Conference with a 3.92 GPA.
This spring's success mirrors the Falcons' fall semester, where the department also posted a 3.10 GPA. In Fall 2024, 42 student-athletes earned a perfect 4.0, and 155 achieved a GPA of 3.0 or higher. The top academic teams that semester were women's tennis (3.66), men's tennis (3.65), and men's soccer (3.60).
UT Permian Basin's student-athletes continue to set the standard both on the field and in the classroom.
