ODESSA, Texas (April 2, 2025) –
Timmy LaChappa, a freshman pitcher for The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball, has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) South Central Region Pitcher of the Week, the association announced Wednesday.
LaChappa tossed a one-hit shutout to beat nationally-ranked UT Tyler in a 1-0 ballgame. LaChappa struck out three batters and allowed just a fourth-inning single in his seven-inning gem. He retired the final 10 batters to become the first pitcher to shut out the Patriots this season. It was just the fourth one-hitter in program history and first since 2017. On the week, LaChappa hurled nine shutout innings as he had two perfect innings with three strikeouts in a non-conference midweek game against Sul Ross State.
The NCBWA Pitcher of the Week award for the South Central Region is given to the best performance by a pitcher across the Lone Star Conference and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. LaChappa has already received the award for LSC Pitcher of the Week.
With this award, LaChappa is now eligible to be nominated for the NCBWA national pitcher of the week award, which is set to be announced later this week.
