Falcons no-hit in game two, begin two-week road trip with two losses at LCU

LUBBOCK, Texas (April 11, 2025) – The beginning of a two-week road swing for The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team saw the Falcons fall 8-0 in six innings in game one and 8-0 in five innings after a no-hitter in game two at Lubbock Christian University on Friday evening.

Game 1 (UTPB 0, LCU 8):
  • UTPB gave up one run in four straight innings starting in the second, and then saw LCU double its lead from 4-0 to 8-0 with a four-run bottom of the sixth to end the game.
  • The Falcons were held to just four hits in the shutout.
  • Teoni Lamb (6-7) pitched all six innings allowing just one walk while striking out eight. It was her second complete-game victory against the Falcons this season.
  • After three straight strikeouts in a perfect 1-2-3 inning for Lamb in the top of the first, UTPB's starting pitcher, Emery Aguilar (2-5), got a 1-3 inning-ending lineout double play back to her to end the bottom of the first. However, after a leadoff walk by Kelsey Valo in the top of the second inning, the LCU defense turned a 6-4-3 groundball double play.
  • A leadoff single up the middle and back-to-back wild pitches by Aguilar set up the first run of the game for the Lady Chaparrals with an RBI-single to right center field on the next at bat in the bottom of the second.
  • UTPB got two runners on base in the top of the third after back-to-back two-out singles by Kaylee Moses and Keri Sanford, but a groundout to second base ended the inning. Then in the bottom half of the third, a leadoff single to left center field was followed by an RBI-double also to left center field to make it 2-0 Lady Chaps.
  • UTPB's final two hits were a one-out single to second base by Lauren Lopez in the fifth inning and a one-out bunt single to third base by Aguilar in the sixth.

Game 2 (UTPB 0, LCU 8):
  • Sanford led off game with a walk and looked to be leading to a potential run after stealing second base, but instead she was deemed to have left first base early, taking the spark out of the Falcons' lineup.
  • UTPB's only other base runner in the game came via a one-out walk by Aguilar in the fourth inning.
  • After scoring four runs in the final inning of game one, LCU continued its offensive firepower in game two with a pair of singles through the right side to start off the bottom of the first before a two-out, two-run double down the right field line to open the scoring.
  • From there, Meghan Gattis (0-12) recorded back-to-back shutout innings in the second and third innings and got three straight outs to avoid damage with two runners on base with no outs in the bottom of the third.
  • Unfortunately, LCU broke the game open with a five-run fourth inning featuring an RBI-triple to right field, an RBI-single also to right field, a two-run home run to center field, and a solo homer to left field to make it back-to-back home runs, all with just one out.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, a caught stealing with two outs was reversed to a solen base after review, keeping the winning-run on second base for the Lady Chaps.
  • Two wild pitches later, the game was over, giving freshman Natalee Gray (5-3) a five-inning no-hitter.
  • It was UTPB's second time being no-hit this season.

Team Records:
  • UTPB falls to 8-36 overall and 3-31 in the Lone Star Conference, and is now 0-16 on the road with eight shutouts in conference play.
  • LCU improves to 26-18 and 17-17, and is now 16-5 at home this season.
