Armstrong named Academic All-District®

ODESSA, Texas (March 25, 2025) – Senior shooting guard DJ Armstrong of The University of Texas Permian Basin men's basketball was named to the 2024-25 Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators.

DJ Armstrong was named Third-Team All-Lone Star Conference, started in all 28 games, and averaged 12.3 points per game this season. He shot 117-of-269 (43.5 percent) from the field, 74-of-202 (36.6 percent) from three and 36-of-39 (92.3 percent) from the free throw line. He led the Falcons in both made 3-pointers and in free throw percentage, and was third in scoring. In all, he scored at least 20 points in a game four times this season and has had seven 20-point games in his two years at UTPB. At one point in the season Armstrong scored at least 23 points in three straight games (Jan. 18-25), including a career-high of 25 points at St. Edward's University in which he made seven 3-pointers (Jan. 23), and was subsequently named UTPB's Edgardo Madrid & Associates Men's Student-Athlete of the Month for January. He led the LSC this year in minutes played and was seventh nationally in minutes per game. Also in the LSC, he was third in made 3-pointers per game (2.6), fourth in total 3-pointers (74) and fifth in 3-point field goal percentage. Armstrong finishes his career ranked fourth in the UTPB record books in made 3-pointers made with 154 across his two seasons as a Falcon. Before coming over to UTPB, Armstrong was the 2022-23 Odessa College Student-Athlete of The Year while his team at OC won two conference championships and advanced to two Elite Eight appearances in the NJCAA National Tournament. At UTPB, Armstrong is a management major with a 3.50 cumulative grade point average, has made the LSC Commissioner's Honor Roll the last two semesters (Spring 2024, Fall 2024), and was a member of the 2023-24 National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court.

The 2024-25 Academic All-District® Men's Basketball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. To be eligible for CSC Academic All-District, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore academically and athletically, hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher and must be a standout in competition. Eligible nominees must compete in 90 percent of the institution's games played OR must start in at least 66 percent of the institution's games.

Armstrong was selected as a CSC Academic All-America® finalist. Finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced April 15, 2025.
