Ainhoa Gurruchaga defeated Khensani Mhotsha by 20 strokes, 82-102.
Lastly,
Ella Veretto defeated Macey Punches by 36 strokes, 82-118.
Gurruchaga and Veretto shared the space atop the individual leaderboard at plus-12 (82). Etxeberria and Maldonado were also tied at plus-14 (84) as each of the top-four scores in the match came from the Falcons.
As a team UTPB shot plus-52 (332) while WTC finished at plus-115 (395). It was UTPB's second-lowest single round score so far this Spring.
"I was extremely proud of my team with how they competed and battled to win each match," spoke UTPB Head Coach
Paul Chavez. "Medal match is a format that we do not use often, but it is very competitive and fun to play. The mindset changes because we are focused on beating our opponent instead of posting a good team score, so it was good to see them compete and win each match. I also want to give a shoutout to
Ella Veretto on posting her first-collegiate birdie and low-college round."
This was the first of three straight dual matches for the Falcons, who will host New Mexico Junior College on Thursday, March 6, at the Odessa Country Club.
