GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (February 13, 2025) – The University of Texas Permian Basin men's and women's swimming & diving teams closed out day three of the RMAC Championship on Thursday at El Pomar Natatorium. The UTPB men remain in fifth place out of six teams with 134 points while the women are eighth out of nine teams with 162 points.
In the first race of the day,
Emma Gerhart was 27th in the prelims of the women's 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.74. On the men's side, UTPB put three swimmers into the B Final of the 100 butterfly as
Colin Doyle (50.34) was ninth,
Tommy Betancour (51.44) was 13th and
Szymon Gilzynski (51.80) was 15th in the prelims. In the finals, Doyle earned the win in the B Final and remained in ninth place overall with a time of 50.09 seconds while Gilzynski (51.44) finished 15th and Betancour (51.47) finished 16th.
Olivia Blackman was 24th in both the prelims (5:08.19) and the finals (5:08.92) of the women's 400 IM.
Owen Putnam (4:06.13) and
Evan Siegrist (4:07.59) both made the B Final on the men's side after finishing 11th and 13th, respectively, in the prelims. In the finals, Putnam stayed in 11th place with a time of 4:03.96 while Siegrist was 14th at 4:08.75
Ana Cardenas was 32nd in the women's 200 freestyle with a time of 2:02.00 while
Ivan Torres Lopez made the B Final on the men's side after finishing 15th in the prelims with a time of 1:43.06. Torres Lopez moved up one spot to finish 14th in the finals with a time of 1:42.77.
Brendan Twomey was fourth in both the prelims (397.15) and the finals (406.30) of the men's 3-meter dive, earning him Second-Team All-RMAC honors.
Lastly, in the 400 medley relay, the UTPB women (Blackman,
Rowan McWhorter, Gerhart, Cardenas) finished eighth with a time of 4:11.65 while on the men's side, the team of
Daniel Bednarski,
Nathan Powell, Doyle and
Brannan Espericueta finished fifth at 3:26.35.

Next up: UT Permian Basin is back for day four of the 2025 RMAC Championship on Friday, February 14. Preliminaries start at 10 a.m. Mountain Time with finals at 5:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Day four of the conference meet with feature the 500 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 200 butterfly, women's 3-meter diving and the 200 freestyle relay.
