1/1/2026 12:00:00 PM

UT Permian Basin student-athletes continued to demonstrate their commitment to excellence in the classroom, posting a cumulative athletic department grade-point average (GPA) of 3.12 during the Fall semester. Across the department, Falcons consistently balanced the demands of competition and coursework. Out of 340 student-athletes, 48 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, while 196 recorded a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

"I'm proud of our student-athletes for achieving a department wide GPA of a 3.12! Great athletes, better students, incredible leaders! When I met with all the student-athletes in August, our goal as a department was to maintain a 3.1 GPA or higher. They raised the bar and reached the goal, and I could not be prouder! Success in the classroom fuels success on the playing fields. The 3.12 GPA is a team effort," said Kelci Martinez, Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Student Success. "Thank you to our coaches for proving that your commitment to these athletes goes far beyond the scoreboard. Academic excellence is a culture we will continue to build on! Congratulations to our student athletes on an outstanding Fall academic season! Go Falcons!"

Several programs led the way academically, highlighted by women's golf with a department-best 3.65 GPA, followed closely by men's golf at 3.61. Among women's programs, softball posted a 3.32 GPA and women's tennis recorded a 3.28. On the men's side, men's tennis ranked second overall with a 3.43 GPA, followed by baseball at 3.42.

In addition to strong team GPAs, Falcon student-athletes earned conference and national academic honors, underscoring the department's emphasis on success beyond competition.

Women's soccer student-athlete Valeria Delgado was named to the 2025 Lone Star Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic Team. A marketing major, Delgado carries a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA as a junior.

During the Fall semester, eight Falcons were also named to the 2025 Academic All-District® Team, selected by College Sports Communicators. Those honored included women's volleyball student-athletes Isabel Rodriguez and Lauren Demuth, along with women's soccer players Delgado and Natalia Salas. Additionally, four football players earned Academic All-District® honors, which will be announced on January 6.

UT Permian Basin Athletics remains dedicated to developing well-rounded student-athletes, and the Fall semester's academic results further highlight the Falcons' ability to excel both on the field and in the classroom.
