ODESSA, Texas (December 16, 2025) – The UT Permian basin women's basketball team scored the first 18 points of the game en route to an 83-34 victory at home over Arlington Baptist University, giving the Falcons a win in each of their last four games heading into the final game of 2025.
It was an exhibition game for Arlington Baptist while UTPB counted the game and improved to 7-4 on the season.
All 18 of UTPB's points in the first quarter came in the paint. ABU missed each of its first 12 shots in the first quarter, and made only its final shot of the opening period with a layup in the final 15 seconds.
Waikimihia Douglas-Karauna scored the first points of the game with an offensive rebound and putback, scored four of the first six points of the game, and netted the first 3-pointer of the game to make the score 25-2 two minutes into the second quarter.
UTPB would lead by as many as 25 points (36-11) in the first half after a fastbreak jumper by
Ja'Nya Thomas with just under three and a half minutes left before halftime. Thomas also dished three assists in the first half.
Juliet Esomchukwu scored a pair of layups in both of the first and second quarters and led the Falcons with eight points at the half.
Madison Walters scored three straight layups early in the third quarter, scoring two of those layups on opportunistic backdoor cuts.
The star of the fourth quarter was
Rihanna DeLeon, who scored on three straight possessions with an and-one followed by back-to-back 3-pointers to make it 76-33 just over four minutes into the final period. DeLeon would then add her third 3-pointer of the quarter to make it a 50-point margin (83-33) with just under three minutes to go.
Despite shooting 56.25 percent (9-16) in the opening quarter, UTPB increased its shooting percentage in each of the first three quarters, and nearly did so again in the fourth quarter before finishing the final period with only nine shot attempts to bring its percentage down despite just three misses.
The Falcons made eight of their first 12 shots (66.7 percent) in the second quarter, seven of their first nine (77.8 percent) in the third quarter, and four of their first five (80 percent) in the fourth quarter.
Despite its shooting percentage "dipping" to 66.67 percent (6-9) in the fourth quarter, the Falcons still scored 20-plus point thanks to a perfect 7-for-7 mark from the free throw line in the period, including a 4-for-4 mark by
Camille Torrence.
In attendance was Nimitz Middle School's seventh and eighth grade basketball teams, and the students went wild when the Falcons reached 67 points (67-25 lead) on Torrence's free throws with 8:27 left to play.
DeLeon led all players with 14 points on her three 3-pointers while Walters added 11 points and Escomchukwu had 10. It was a season-high in points for both DeLeon and Escomchukwu, who both only missed two shots.
Douglas-Karauna finished 3-for-3 from the field and 1-1 from three to earn her seven points.
Alondra Reyes pulled down a game-high eight rebounds, including seven defensive boards, and Thomas dished out a season-best four assists.

Before the Holiday Break officially begins, UTPB will have one more game as the Falcons host the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, inside the Falcon Dome. It will be UTPB's final nonconference game of the season and is an opportunity for the Falcons to try and get a much-needed regional win.
