SAN ANGELO, TEXAS (October 25, 2025) – After going two matches without allowing a goal and withstanding 17 shot attempts by the Rambelles in a scoreless first half on Saturday, The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team was unable to keep Angelo State University off the scoreboard in the second half and fell 2-0 on the road.
Despite being outshot 17-1 overall and 7-0 on shots on goal in the first half, the UTPB defense held the Belles scoreless with goalkeeper
Valeria Delgado making six saves.
"Unfortunately, it was a day where we didn't start very well," spoke UTPB Head Coach
Garrett Kull. "We fell back into some old habits as we faced adversity in the first half. We really played on the back foot after what felt like some early momentum, and that's been a trend we've been trying to combat as a team."
UTPB got the very first shot of the match on an off-target attempt by
Cassandra Ramirez just one minute in, but from there ASU registered 18 shot attempts in a row, the last of which went for the first goal of the match less than seven minutes into the second half.
Within the first seven minutes of action, the Belles would record five shots with two of them being on target. Delgado made saves in the sixth and seventh minutes of the match and had to make two more saves in the final four minutes of the first half.
In addition, the Falcons registered a team save on a shot by Sanai Stewart to help keep it scoreless in the 26th minute.
In the second half, however, Stewart got free and crossed the ball into the middle of the box to record the assist on the first goal of the match on a header by Graycen Rasmussen just above the goalkeeper in the 52nd minute. Then in the 61st minute, Lexi Gonzalez would send a shot from outside the box over the keeper as well to make it 2-0.
UTPB had a 5-4 shot advantage in the second half, the first three off target by
Allyson Reed. UTPB's first shot on goal of the match came from
Mariela Ojeda in the 68th minute before Reed put one on target in the 73rd minute.
Reed had one final shot on goal in the final minute, tying her for the match-high with five total shot attempts.
"In the second half, we challenged the team to go out and not sit back, but to try to play a bit more aggressive offensively," said Coach Kull. "With some of these chances, we left some gaps in the back line that Angelo was able to exploit. Sometimes that's the tight rope you have to walk late in the conference when you're looking for a result. I'm happy that the team had the courage to go out and compete to try and go get the three points rather than settling to just try to hang around in the game."
Delgado finished with eight saves for the match, and has recorded eight or more saves in five of the team's last eight matches.
Coach Kull concluded, "
Valeria Delgado was a standout in goal for us again today and really showed her 1-v-1 skills.
Natalia Salas continues to be our rock and engine at the back both offensively and defensively.
Emily Morales also continued to show her tremendous dependability as a freshman. All played 90 minutes today and surpassed 1,200 minutes on the season. We also went deep into our bench today, and I was impressed with how some of our subs came on and played today.
Hadley Kelly is one of those subs that when she's up top, she plays one speed and is really a thorn for defenses to deal with. I think that shows that we're continuing to build that depth with this squad."
With its three-match undefeated streak over, UTPB falls to 3-8-3 overall and 2-8-2 in the Lone Star Conference. It was also the end of a three-match undefeated streak for the Falcons against ASU (8-3-4, 7-2-2).
After starting the season 0-1-2 in the LSC, ASU has earned a shutout win in seven of its last eight matches to move up to fourth place in the LSC standings. Last year, the Belles finished with a 14-2-5 overall record and were 10-0-3 in the LSC, advancing to the South-Central Regional finals for the first time in school history. Heading into this year, the Belles were selected to finish second overall behind DBU in the LSC preseason Poll.
With one week remaining in the season, UTPB sits at eight points in the LSC, tying last year's mark.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, UTPB will play its final road match at Midwestern State University at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 29.
