The University of Texas Permian Basin Athletics Department officially etched six names into its history books on Saturday, October 25, as it hosted the inaugural UTPB Athletics Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony inside the Diamond Club at the Midland RockHounds Ballpark.
Family, friends, alumni, and supporters gathered to celebrate the remarkable careers and contributions of the first-ever Hall of Fame class — standout student-athletes Tammy (Acosta) Willis, Evan Gattis, Amithy (Henry) Crawford, and Chris Hoad, along with revered coaches Andy Newman and Dr. Steve Aicinena, who was recognized for his decades of service and dedication to the University.
The afternoon began with a buffet lunch before an emceed- by Derek Catsam - Q&A session allowed each inductee to reflect on their journeys, share personal memories, and express gratitude to teammates, mentors, and the Falcon community that shaped their success. Their stories captured the spirit of perseverance, pride, and unity that define UT Permian Basin Athletics.
The UTPB Athletics Hall of Fame will continue to grow in the years to come, honoring those whose achievements have elevated the University and inspired the Permian Basin community.
