Women’s soccer holds Oklahoma Christian to a draw

ODESSA, Texas (October 18, 2025) – After a combined 33 shots and 20 shots on goal in 90 minutes of action, The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team and Oklahoma Christian University settled for a 0-0 draw in a physical match between the Falcons and the Eagles on Saturday afternoon at the UTPB Soccer Field.

The teams combined for 22 shots in the second half while both teams finished with 10 shots on goal for the match.

Goalkeepers Valeria Delgado and Breanna Wooten matched each other save-for-save throughout the action.

Less than two minutes into the match, Maria Tarrago registered the first shot of the match, causing Wooten to make the save and setting the tempo for the rest of the day. Less than 10 minutes in, Cassandra Ramirez made a nice move inside but saw her shot saved as well.

UTPB continued to challenge Wooten in the 18th minute as a scrum in front of the goal led to a shot by Mariela Ojeda, but Wooten was able to make the stop while getting banged up on the play and opting to stay in the match.

Following the first corner kick of the match, which was rewarded to Oklahoma Christian, Delgado stood tall and made back-to-back saves in the 23rd minute.

In the 38th minute, a free kick for Oklahoma Christian's Jaycie Daggs resulted in a shot that went wide right, setting up a theme that nearly played dividends for the Eagles in the second half.

Similarly to how it started the match, UTPB started the second half with an early shot on goal to set the tempo as an attempt by Molly King was stopped by Wooten less than 30 seconds in.

From there, however, the Eagles began to pepper the UTPB goal with five shot attempts in only a five-minute and 10-second span starting in the 51st minute.

In all, Oklahoma Christian registered seven straight shots as a header was saved by Delgado in the 62nd minute and another free kick by Daggs was saved in the 63rd minute.

UTPB nearly broke the draw in the 70th minute when a free kick by Natalia Salas led to a header by Sarah Williams that just missed off the post.

In the 75th minute, it was the Eagles who nearly scored as Avery Carnes got behind the defense, took in the long pass and drew out Delgado from the goal, but could get off a clean shot with Delgado closing in.

The third free kick of the match by Daggs went high of the goal in the 79th minute, but in the 83rd minute, it looked like her free kick was going to get Oklahoma Christian on the scoreboard. This time after Daggs took her free kick from the side, Raquel Fanelli appeared to score the go-ahead goal, but it was called back on a foul.

In the final 4:30 of the match, the fifth free kick by Daggs led to a header by Callaway Scott that was saved by Delgado.

A strong attempt by Allyson Reed was saved by Wooten in the final three and a half minutes, and then a final attempt by Ramirez in the last 30 seconds was also saved.

Ramirez (4 shots) and Reed (3 shot) both tied for the match-high with three shots on goal.

In all for the second half, Oklahoma Christian outshot UTPB 13-9 while Delgado out-saved Wooten by a 7-6 margin. It was the sixth shoutout of the season for Wooten, but was the first of those results in which she did not earn the victory.

There were a combined 17 fouls in the second half and were 28 fouls in the match (15-13 Oklahoma Christian).

With its second tie in a row, UTPB moves to 2-7-3 overall and 1-7-2 in the Lone Star Conference. In addition, it was UTPB's second tie in the last three years against Oklahoma Christian (6-5-2 overall), which suffered its first tie in conference play this season at 4-4-1.

The 2-2 tie between the two teams two years ago in Odessa, Texas, was the first positive result for the Falcons against the Eagles since September 21, 2014, and the first in LSC play. Now, UTPB has made it three positive results in a row against Oklahoma Christian after winning 3-0 on the road last year, earning its first win over the Eagles in 10 years and winning for the first time at Oklahoma Christian since 2012.

Next up, the Falcons host Sul Ross State University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22.
