ODESSA, Texas (February 1, 2025) – A total 46 golfers – 24 from the 12 women's teams and 22 from the 11 men's teams – were nominated by their institution to the 2025 Lone Star Conference preseason players to watch list. Recognized from the University of Texas Permian Basin were
Will Tate and
Thonsaeng Nunya from the men's team and
Ainhoa Gurruchaga and
Lorena Etxeberria from the women's team.
Will Tate is a redshirt junior from Reading, England, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. He averaged 72.25 per round during the Fall season and had a top-20 finish in each of the first three tournaments of the year, including a runner-up finish for which he was named the LSC Men's Golfer of the Week after leading the UTPB men's team to the RJGA South Central Shootout team championship.

Thonsaeng Nunya is a junior from Sri Racha, Chon Buri, Thailand, majoring in Marketing. He posted a 74 scoring average in the Fall season.

Ainhoa Gurruchaga is a senior from Ventosa, La Rioja, Spain, majoring in Psychology. The 2023-24 LSC Newcomer of the Year, Gurruchaga opened her senior season in the Fall with a pair of top-10 finishes and finished with a 77 scoring average in three events.

Lorena Etxeberria is a freshman from Mungia, Spain, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. Competing during her first semester of college golf this past Fall, Etxeberria finished in the top-four in her first collegiate tournament at the Oklahoma Women's Intercollegiate before adding another top-25 finish.

This year, the season for the UTPB women's team starts Monday-Tuesday, February 3-4, at the Jack Brown Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas. Then on Thursday, February 6, the Falcons will matchup up against NJCAA powerhouse Odessa College for a dual match at the Odessa Country Club.
The men's season, meanwhile, starts Monday-Tuesday, February, 17-18 at the Rattler Invitational hosted by St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas.
The 2025 LSC Golf Championship Tournaments will be held at the Rockwall Golf and Athletic Club in Rockwall, Texas. The men's competition rounds are set for April 14-15-16 with the women's competition rounds following on April 21-22-23. LSC Championship format includes 54-hole stroke play with four teams advancing to medal play.
The women's NCAA Division II postseason starts with the West Regional May 5-7 hosted by West Texas A&M at La Paloma Golf Course in Amarillo, Texas. The Championship finals are scheduled May 13-17 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nevada.
Men's NCAA Division II postseason opens with the Super Regional May 8-10 in Riverside, California, hosted by Cal State San Bernardino. The Championship final is scheduled May 19-23 in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, at the PGA National Resort.
