GEORGETOWN, Texas (January 26, 2025) – The University of Texas Permian Basin Falcons tuned up against Southwestern University preparing for the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in a little over two weeks. The UTPB men were victorious 181.5-89.5 while the women fell 159-100.
"The UTPB men and women placed first and second respectively against Southwestern, showing some grit and determination in their last dual meet of the season," said Head Coach
Brian Schroeder. "We didn't have any goal times for this meet. We just wanted to go race and work on a couple different things leading into conference championships."
The UTPB men won 12 of 16 events while the women added four wins. In the non-diving events, the men swept the top-three spots in the 100 backstroke, the 100 butterfly and the 200 butterfly and the top-two spots in the 200 freestyle, the 500 freestyle and the 1000 freestyle.
Leading the way was
Evan Siegrist and
Daniel Bednarski with two wins apiece. Siegrist won both the 500 freestyle (4:57.81) and the 1000 freestyle (10:17.74) and added a second-place finish in the 200 butterfly (2:01.84). Bednarski was first in the 100 freestyle (49.37), tied for first in the 200 IM (2:01.68), and second in the 100 backstroke (54.82).
Zane Garner won the 100 backstroke (54.22) and was second in the 200 backstroke (1:59.64), and
Nathan Powell won the 200 breaststroke (2:17.34) and was third in the 50 freestyle (22.69).
Chase Alderman was second in the 100 breaststroke (1:02.60) and third in the 200 IM (2:03.70),
Colin Doyle was second in the 100 butterfly (55.18) and third in the 100 backstroke (55.28), and
Legend Jankowski was second in the 200 freestyle (1:49.64) and third in the 200 backstroke (2:00.00).
On the women's side,
Rowan McWhorter won the 100 breaststroke (1:15.72) and finished in second place in both the 100 freestyle (58.05) and the 200 IM (2:24.09) while
Emma Gerhart earned a first (500 freestyle; 5:51.41), second (200 butterfly; 2:26.40) and third-place (100 freestyle; 59.53) finish.
Olivia Blackman was second in the 100 backstroke (1:10.34) and was third in the 1000 freestyle (12:16.84),
Ana Cardenas was second in the 50 freestyle (28.31) and third in the 100 butterfly (1:10.97), and
Gia Delgado was second in the 200 breaststroke (3:01.26) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.10).
In the diving events,
Camilla Aguilar won the women's 1-meter dive (260.80) and
Kathe Hepfer won the women's 3-meter dive (260.40) while
Brendan Twomey swept both the 1-meter (323.65) and the 3-meter (225.15) events on the men's side.
