LUBBOCK, Texas - The bats had it going early and often for the University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team on Friday in a 21-12 victory over Regis in the first game of the NCAA South Central Regional at Hays Field in Lubbock, Texas. The Falcons racked up 24 hits in the first NCAA Tournament win in program history.

Every batter in the Falcon lineup had a hit and scored a run on the day.
Brent Rigtrup went 5-for-7 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Mason Hamlin had four hits and drove in five.
Jack Haggerty,
Austin Hall, and
Payton Matthews had three hits each.Â

Armaan Drar earned the win, allowing just one run over 3.1 innings out of the bullpen while
Brock Robarts slammed the door with 2.1 shutout innings.

The Falcons got the day going with back-to-back singles by Haggerty and Hamlin.
Ethan Flodstrom brought home Haggerty with a ground ball for the first run of the day. Hall followed with a single to drive in Hamlin and UTPB led 2-0.
It was 2-1 Falcons heading into the third when the offense broke out. Haggerty and Hamlin reached on a pair of errors by the Rangers to start the inning before Flodstrom singled to load the bases. Hall drove home a pair with a single to left to push the lead to 6-1. Rigtrup doubled home a pair and was followed by a double off the bat of
Clayton Coats for the 7-1 lead.

Carson Johnson followed a walk to Matthews with an RBI single to make it 8-1. The Falcons loaded the bases for Hamlin who cleared the bases with a double to left center for the 10-run lead. The Rangers wouldn't go away, striking for four in their half of the inning to make it 12-5.Â

The Falcons continued to add insurance runs in the middle innings. They scored one in the fourth on an error before a pair in the fifth on hits by Rigtrup and Matthews. Flodstrom added an RBI single in the sixth to make it 15-5.Â

Regis scored in the bottom of the sixth, but UTPB responded right back with three in the seventh. Rigtrup opened the inning with a single and came around to score on a triple by Coats. Matthews drove him in with a double to right center for the 11-run lead. Haggerty made it 18-6 with an RBI single through six-and-a-half innings.

The Rangers would not go away, scoring six in the seventh to make it 18-12 in favor of the Falcons. Any thought of a dramatic comeback was put away in the eighth as the Falcons added three runs for the eventual 21-12 final.

The Falcons advance to the winner's bracket where they will play tomorrow at 5 p.m. in Lubbock.
