ODESSA, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team's offense broke out in a big way on Tuesday to lead the Falcons to a doubleheader sweep of Western New Mexico, 4-2 and 11-6.

Mia Quintero,
Cheyenne Marquez,
Kylie Parker, and
Melayna Lopez all had multi-hit days. Parker, Lopez, and
Kelsey Valo all drove in multiple runs as well.
Destini Trahan earned the win in game one with a complete game while
Emery Aguilar earned the win in game two, allowing one run over 4.1 innings.
Game one was a pitchers duel early as the Mustangs took a 1-0 lead into the fourth. A pair of walks put two-on with two-out for Lopez, who tied the score with a single. The score remained there until the sixth.
Quintero led off the winning with a hit before
Delaney Doelitsch walked. Two batters and two outs later, up stepped Lopez who came through once again with a three-run home run to break the tie at 4-1. The Mustangs got a run back in the seventh on a sac fly but the Falcons held on for the win.
The offense continued the momentum into the next game, even after the Mustangs scored twice in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning, Parker singled home a run before
Angelina Arriaga worked a bases loaded walk to tie the score.
The Musangs broke the tie in the third with three runs before the Falcons responded in the fourth. Quintero played
Emily Andress on an infield single to get the rally going. After an out, Marquez drove home Bumford on a single to make it 5-4. They took the lead on a two-run double by Parker at 6-5.
UTPB expanded their lead in the fifth on a solo home run by
Julia Bumford. The Mustangs answered with a run before the Falcons broke the game open in the sixth. Marquez led off the inning with a double before scoring on a hit by
Keri Sanford. Valo followed with a three-run homer to make the eventual final score of 11-6.
The Falcons wrap up their series with the Mustangs tomorrow in Odessa with first pitch scheduled for noon.
