ODESSA, Texas - A day after a doubleheader sweep, the University of Texas Permian Basin looked to take all three games of their series with Western New Mexico. Despite some late offense, the Falcons came out on the wrong end of a 7-3 final.
Â
The Mustangs jumped out to a 5-0 lead before
Destini Trahan settled things down out of the bullpen. The Falcon offense was kept in check until the fifth, only recording one hit.
Emily Andress led off the inning with a hit before
Mia Quintero worked a two-out walk.
Kelsey Valo followed with a walk to end the shutout and made it a 6-1 game.
Â
The offense got going with two outs in the sixth. After two quick outs,
Angelina Arriaga worked a walk. Pinch-hitter
Stephanie Jimenez then hit a two-run home run to keep the Falcons in the game. In their half of the seventh, down 7-3, the Falcons threatened. Valo walked and moved to third on a single by
Cheyenne Marquez. A walk to
Kylie Parker brought the tying run to the plate with two outs but the Falcons couldn't cash in on the opportunity.
Â
Trahan allowed just two runs over 7.0 innings of relief and struck out five.
Â
The Falcons hit the road this weekend to face St. Edward's. Their three-game series begins with a doubleheader on Saturday, April 14 in Austin.
