Falcon Bats Break Out Against Dustdevils

The team recorded 22 hits on the day

ODESSA, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin racked up 22 hits and nine runs in doubleheader action on Saturday against Texas A&M International. Despite the offense, the Falcons fell in both games, 7-6 and 7-3.
 
Mia Quintero, Kelsey Valo, and Delaney Doelitsch all had multi-hit games in game one, while Doelitsch recorded three RBI. Valo added two more hits and a pair of RBI in game two while Stephanie Jimenez had a pair of hits as well.
 
The Falcon offense had it going in their first turn at the plate. Quintero singled and Doelitsch doubled her home with two outs for their first run of the game. Trailing 3-1 in the second, Melayne Lopez hit a leadoff double and moved to third on a base hit by Michaella Baker. Keri Sanford singled home Lopez to make it 3-2.
 
In the fourth, the Dustdevils added a run before the Falcon offense broke out. With two on, Valo doubled home a run to cut the deficit to one. Doelitsch followed with a hit to bring in a pair and put the Falcons ahead 5-4. Quintero added an insurance run in the fifth on a single by Quintero to lead the game 6-4. In the seventh, the Dustdevils scored three times to take the lead and held the Falcons to hang on for the win.
 
UTPB struck first in game two. They loaded the bases with two outs and Jimenez delivered with a single for the early lead. The Falcons didn't score again until their half of the seventh. With two on and two out, Valo doubled home a pair. It was too late as the Dustdevils scored in the fourth and six in the sixth for the win.
 
These two teams conclude a three-game series tomorrow at noon from Odessa.
