Box Score EDMOND, Oklahoma - The bats were on fire for the University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team on Saturday at Oklahoma Christian. The Falcons racked up 17 hits, 12 for extra bases, in a 21-9 win over the Eagles.

Ethan Flodstrom,
Gibrian Pena, and
Clayton Coats all had three hits on the afternoon. Coats led the way with five RBI while Pena drove in four. Flodstrom and
Mason Hamlin drove in three runs each.Â

The Falcons took the lead just three batters into the game.
Jack Haggerty singled to lead off the contest and scored on a double by Flodstrom. Later in the inning, Pena hit a two-run home run for the 3-0 lead. Three runs in the first and three in the second by the Eagles put them ahead 6-3.

Pena hit his second two-run home run of the game in the third to pull UTPB to within one. They tied the game in the fourth on a ground ball by Flodstrom to bring home Haggerty.Â

UTPB broke the game open in the fifth.
Payton Matthews started the scoring with a double for the 7-6 lead.
Carson Johnson followed with a double of his own to bring home two. Haggerty capped the inning with a third straight double and the Falcons led 10-6.

The Falcons added a run in the sixth and two in the seventh with some small ball and pushed the lead to 13-8. After the Eagles got a run back in the seventh, the Falcons put the game to bed for good in the eighth. A double by Coats and walks to Johnson and Haggerty loaded the bases for Hamlin who cleared them with a double of his own and a 16-9 lead.
Taylor McDaniel added an insurance run in the ninth with a bases loaded walk. Coats put the exclamation mark on the game with a grand slam and the final runs of the afternoon.

The Falcons wrap up the regular season tomorrow against the Eagles with first pitch slated for noon. They will then advance to the Lone Star Conference Championships beginning May 3.
