Falcons Hit Three Homers to Split Doubleheader with Eagles

UTPB clinched a winning record on the road this season

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 EDMOND, Oklahoma - The University of Texas Permian Basin baseball team launched three long balls as they split a doubleheader with Oklahoma Christian in Edmond, Oklahoma on Friday. The Falcons won the opening game 5-2 before falling in the second 8-6.
 
The Falcons had the offense going early in the first inning of the first game. With two-on and two-out, Gibrian Pena singled home a run for the lead. They added to the lead in the third with a solo home run off the bat of Ethan Flodstrom to make it 2-0. The Eagles got a run back in their half of the third but the Falcons responded in the fourth with an RBI groundout by Peyton Matthews.
 
Caleb Boswell added an insurance run on a single in the sixth before Mason Hamlin's solo home run in the seventh made it 5-2. Brock Robarts pitched around a double in the bottom of the seventh to seal the win.
 
UTPB took the first lead of the second game thanks to an RBI double by Austin Hall. The Eagles tied it in the second but the Falcons retook the lead in the third. Hall brought home Flodstrom with his second double of the game, before coming around to score on a single by Pena to go ahead 3-1. 
 
Jack Haggerty drove in a run in the fourth on a single to make it a 4-2 Falcon lead but the Eagles got to UTPB's pitching, scoring six runs between the fifth and sixth. The Falcons got a pair of runs back in the seventh on a two-run home run by Brent Rigtrup, but it wasn't enough as they fell 8-6.
 
Trevor Barth earned his fifth win of the year in game one, striking out four over 6.0 innings.
 
The Falcons and Eagles are back at it tomorrow at 10 a.m.
