ODESSA, Texas - The bats of the University of Texas Permian Basin broke out for 29 runs and 37 hits in a doubleheader sweep of the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith on Thursday at Roden Field. The Falcons cruised to a game one win 20-4 before taking game two 9-6.

Jack Haggerty and
Ethan Flodstrom had six hits each on the day while Brent Rigtup had five.
Carson Johnson drove in six runs while
Clayton Coats had five RBI. All nine starters for UTPB had at least three hits on the day and everyone drove in a run.

Trevor Barth threw a complete game, striking out eight, in the first game for the win.
Drew Wenske was clutch out of the bullpen in game two allowing one earned run in 4.0 innings and struck out five.

Austin Hall drove in the first run of the day with a single in the first inning. Two batters later, Rigtrup singled with the bases loaded to make it 2-0.
Carson Johnson made it 3-0 with a solo home run to lead off the second before Hall doubled home Flodstrom later in the inning for the four-run lead.

The Falcons found the long ball in the third, hitting three as part of a 10-run inning, including two by Coats. He followed a lead-off walk to Rigtrup with a two-run shot to make it 6-1. After a double by
Payton Matthews and a walk to Johnson, Haggerty launched a three-run shot. Later in the inning, Rigtrup knocked in a pair to make it 11-1. Coats followed that with his second home run of the inning for a 12-run advantage. Two batters later, Johnson capped the rally with an RBI single, scoring Matthews who had doubled.

The long ball continued in the fourth.
Gibrian Pena got the inning going with a solo homer with two outs to make it 15-3. Rigtrup followed with a double before scoring on a single by Coats. Matthews singled to make it first and second when Johnson hit his second home run of the day to make it 19-3. Hamlin ended the scoring in the fifth with a solo shot, the team's seventh home run of the day.

The second game saw the bats continue to work early. Flodstrom doubled home a pair for the early 2-0 lead. After the Lions scored in the second, the Falcons responded with four in their half of the inning. Johnson plated a run on a ground ball before Haggerty drove home Matthews to make it 4-1. Two batters later, Hall doubled home a pair for the five-run lead.Â

Leading 6-3 in the fourth, Hamlin hit a sac fly to score Haggerty to extend the lead. The lead was pushed further on a solo home run by Matthews in the fifth at 8-3.

The Lions kept things interesting with two runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it 8-6. The Falcons got a big insurance run in the eighth on a double by Flodstrom before
Brock Robarts shut the door on the team's 26th win of the season.
