AUSTIN, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team fell in their series finale with St. Edward's, 5-1, on Sunday in Austin, Texas.
Destini Trahan had another good performance against the Hilltoppers. The senior allowed just four earned runs on seven hits over 6.0 innings of work.
The Falcon offense had momentum in the top of the first after a walk to
Mia Quintero and a base hit by
Stephanie Jimenez put two on with one out. They couldn't push across a run after a double play ended the inning. They threatened in the second but their rally was ended by a double play once again.
In the sixth, the offense finally broke through.
Keri Sanford started things off with a single before advancing on a ground ball. Jimenez singled to center field to score the run and get the Falcons on the board. UTPB had a runner on second in the seventh but couldn't push another run across as the Hilltoppers scored in the first and four in the fifth.
Jimenez and
Cheyenne Marquez each had a pair of hits on the day for the offense.
