Falcons Square Off With Pioneers

DENTON, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team (1-13 Lone Star Conference, 4-19) lost 2-0 and 8-0 to Texas Woman's (11-6 LSC, 13-13), Friday afternoon at Dianne Baker Field.

Game 1
Texas Woman's used three hits to score two runs in the first inning.  Senior Destini Trahan allowed only two hits over the last six innings.

In the third and seventh innings, UTPB had a runner on with one out.  The Pioneers made some good defensive plays to stop the Falcons both times.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Stephanie Jimenez had two hits.  Trahan (0-7) gave up five hits, two runs, walked three and struck out two in six innings.

For Texas Woman's, Alyssa LeBlanc (6-5) gave up three hits, walked two and struck out 12 in seven innings.

Game 2
In the first inning, TWU had a runner on with one out.  UTPB turned a double play to end the inning.

In the third inning, freshman Kylie Parker walked and sophomore Angelina Arriaga singled to lead off the inning.  Texas Woman's got three straight outs to end the threat.  In the bottom half, the Pioneers scored for the 1-0 lead. 

It was a pitching duel as there were only five total hits after four and one-half innings.  TWU scored seven runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

For UT Permian Basin, freshman Morgan McGaugh (4-5) gave up four hits, three runs, walked four and struck out one in four and one-third innings.

For Texas Woman's, Jaycie Hall (3-4) gave up two hits, walked one and struck out seven in five innings.

UT Permian Basin closes the series with Texas Woman's, Saturday, Mar. 9.  The game is scheduled to start at noon.
