Sangha Park Genesis Invitational

Park proving he belongs

3/6/2024 5:30:00 PM

As days turn to weeks, and weeks to months, UT Permian Basin men's golfer Sangha Park has continued to prove he is deserving of being the No. 1 ranked golfer in Division II.

Park has not been afraid of testing his skills against some of the top ranked golfers in the collegiate field. He recently competed in The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase where he took on top ranked Division I opponents.

"I got there on February 11th, and it was mind blowing how beautiful the course was," said Park. "It was amazing to see the course that I had seen on TV or my phone."

The Genesis Invitational Collegiate Showcase gives a collegiate golfer the opportunity to play their way into The Genesis Scottish Open field. It's held at The Riviera Country Club during one of the PGA TOUR's Signature events.

"The tournament went very well," said Park. "Tied for 5th wasn't what I wanted but I saw myself improve compared to a year and half ago. I know that I have room to improve, but overall it was a huge win for me."

Park finished in front of golfers from San Jose State, The University of Washington, Wake Forest University, University of Southern California and Columbia University.

Park also noted that he wasn't intimidated to play against top ranked Division I players because he knew that he just needed to focus on his game to beat them.

"After the tournament, I went to practice next to all the top-rank professionals and had some conversations. I felt like I belonged there, and I was able to picture myself on that tour," said Park. "It was more than an awesome experience, and I believe it's not going to be long before I get to compete with them."

Park's success continued at the Las Vegas Desert Classic this week as he tied for fourth (–9). He led the field in birdies with 20 and tied for third in Par 4 Scoring at 3.83.  His score of 207 is tied for the fourth lowest 3-round score in UTPB history.
