SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Sophomore
Kelsey Valo homered for the first time in her collegiate career but it wasn't enough as the University of Texas Permian Basin softball team fell in the series finale to St. Mary's 9-1 in San Antonio.
The Falcon offense was kept in check, only having one baserunner thanks to a walk until the third.
Emily Andress reached on an error and after
Delaney Doelitsch walked and
Mia Quintero was hit by a pitch, the bases were loaded with two outs. Despite the threat, they couldn't push across a run.
The offense finally got on the board when Valo homered to left on the first pitch she saw in the fourth.
Julia Bumford followed with a single for the team's second hit of the day but that's all they could register as Rattler pitching kept the offense off balance. The home side scored five in the first to put the game away before adding three in the second and another in the fourth.
Destini Trahan was solid in relief, allowing just one run in 2.0 innings.
The Falcons are off until next weekend when they host Texas A&M International beginning Saturday, April 6.
