ODESSA, Texas - The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team saw their offense break out against Texas A&M - Kingsville on Saturday, scoring a season-high seven runs in Lone Star Conference play. Despite the late rally by the Falcons, the Javelinas came out on top 8-7.

The visitors jumped out to an 8-0 led after two innings thanks to a pair of home runs. In the bottom of the second,
Melayna Lopez singled and
Cheyenne Marquez followed with a two-run home run to make it an 8-2 game.Â

Mia Quintero walked to start the third and moved to third on an error. Later in the inning with the bases load, Marquez reached on an error to score Quintero and make it 8-3.
Angelina Arriaga followed with a two-run single before
Julia Bumford drove home a run with a base hit to make it 8-6.

The Falcons loaded the bases in the fifth thanks to a hit batter and a pair of singles by
Delaney Doelitsch and Bumford, but they couldn't push across a run. Down two in the seventh, Lopez walked to start the inning and moved to second on a single by Marquez. An error allowed
Nia Brown to reach and load the bases with one out. Bumford scored a run on a sac fly but the trail runner was thrown out trying to move to second to end the ballgame.

Emery Aguilar and
Laila Vasquez were terrific out of the bullpen for the Falcons, throwing 5.1 shutout innings and allowing just two hits. Vazquez shouldered most of the load, throwing 4.2 innings and striking out three. Bumford and Marquez each had two hits and drove in a pair of runs.
