Jimenez Has Three-Hit Day as UTPB Opens Series with Kingsville

The senior’s three-hit day included her first home run of the season

ODESSA, Texas - Stephanie Jimenez had a big day at the plate for the University of Texas Permian Basin softball team on Friday, racking up three hits including her first home run of the season. Despite the senior's best efforts, Texas A&M - Kingsville was too much to overcome in a 10-2 and 10-1 final in doubleheader action.

Jimenez started her day with a single in the first inning of the first game but couldn't come around to score. Trailing 3-0 in the third inning, Emily Andress worked a lead-off walk. Two batters later, Kaylee Moses homered to trim the deficit to one. The Falcons had runners on the corners later in the same inning but the Javelinas escaped the jam.

In the top of the fourth, the visitors plated seven runs to break the game open. The Falcons got a pair of singles from Melayna Lopez and Faith Thigpen in the bottom of the inning but couldn't push another run in the 10-2 final.

The UTPB offense was quiet until the fourth inning of game two. Trailing 4-0, Jimenez launched a solo home run for their first hit of the ball game. Lopez singled and moved to second after Keri Sanford reached on an error later in the inning, but the Falcons couldn't push another run across. In the top of the fifth the Javelinas once again put the game away with a six-spot and the 10-1 final.

The Falcons finish a three-game series with the Javelinas tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for noon.
