PORTALES, New Mexico - The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team fell in their series opener at Eastern New Mexico 8-0 on Tuesday in Portales, New Mexico.

Melayna Lopez was hit by a pitch with two outs to load the bases, but UTPB couldn't push a run across.
Angelina Arriaga singled in the fifth but that was the last of the Falcon offense. The Greyhounds jumped out to an early lead, plating the first six batters of the game before adding a pair of runs in the third for the win.
UTPB has another chance tomorrow with a doubleheader against the Greyhounds starting at noon.
