Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PORTALES, New Mexico - Destiny Trahan had a strong day in the circle for the UT Permian Basin softball team, allowing just three runs over 8.1 innings at Eastern New Mexico on Wednesday. It wasn't enough as the team fell to the Greyhounds 8-5 in the first game of a doubleheader and 6-2 in the second game.

Trailing early in the first game, the Falcon offense came to life in the third inning. With two-on and two-out, Kaylee Moses drove in Emily Andress and Keri Sanford to make it a 6-2 game. Down 8-2 in the seventh, the Falcon offense once again rallied.

A walk, error, and a hit by pitch loaded the bases for Sanford, who doubled to left field to drive home all three runs with two outs. The double forced the Greyhounds to go to their bullpen where they shut the door on the Falcons, leaving the tying run on deck in the 8-5 final.

The second game again saw the Falcons fall behind early before the offense came to life. Sanford was again in the middle of the action to spark the rally with a lead-off single. Another single and a walk loaded the bases for Nia Brown whose single up the middle got UTPB on the board at 5-1.

The Falcons got another run in the fifth when Cheyenne Marquez led off the inning with a solo home run on the first pitch she saw to make it 5-2. Later in the inning the Falcons would threaten with runners on the corners but couldn't push a run across to remain behind by three. The offense couldn't find a way to reach base the rest of the way, while the Greyhounds added a run for the 6-2 final in game two.

Trahan went 4.2 innings of relief in the opening game of the day, allowing just two runs on four hits. In the second game, she allowed just one run out of the bullpen in 3.2 innings.

Sanford had a big day at the plate with three hits and three RBI. Marquez had a pair of hits, including her first home run and RBI of the season.

The Falcons return to Odessa to host Texas A&M - Kingsville in a three-game series beginning on Friday.
