Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Falcons Slow Down Greyhounds

PORTALES, N.M. – Another milestone was met as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (12-2 Lone Star Conference, 17-3) beat Eastern New Mexico (3-11 LSC, 7-13) 69-51, Saturday afternoon at Greyhound Arena.

It was the 12th conference win of the season breaking the program record.  That had been 11 in the Heartland in 2011-12.

The first period saw UTPB and Eastern New Mexico trading buckets the whole way.  In the second period, the Falcons put on a burst and led by 10 at halftime, 34-24.

In the third quarter, the Greyhounds refused to quit and kept pecking away.  ENMU closed to 41-39 with 1:25 left in the third.  Graduate student Alexus Quaadman hit a bucket that started a run of 15 straight points over the next six minutes to put the game away.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Andreea Mancha had 18 points and hit five 3-pointers, sophomore Khiara Flugence had 13 points and eight rebounds and Quaadman had 10 points and two steals.

For Eastern New Mexico, Jaz Salon had 15 points.

UTPB returns home, Thursday, Feb. 8 hosting West Texas A&M.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
