UTPB Topples Records And Rambelles

ODESSA, Texas – Junior Morgan Helgesen broke a record as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's basketball team (Receiving Votes) (17-4 Lone Star Conference, 22-5) beat Angelo State (13-8 LSC, 19-11) 90-54, Wednesday night at the Falcon Dome.

The win was the first over ASU since Dec. 17, 2015.  It also broke the school season record for wins (21 in 2010-11 & 2012-13).

The first four minutes of the game saw UTPB and Angelo State keeping the score tight.  Up 11-6 with 6:03 to go. Graduate student Kamryn Lemon hit a bucket that started a 9-2 run over the next two minutes to seal the game.

The Falcons put a lid on the Rambelles bucket allowing them to shoot just 30.8% from the floor and 16.7% from behind the arc.

For UT Permian Basin, Helgesen had 30 points, hit 8-of-12 from the floor with seven triples, Lemon and senior Andreea Mancha scored 13 points each and graduate student Alexus Quaadman had 10 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and blocked two shots.

Helgesen shot 87.5% (7-of-8) on 3-pointers setting the school single game record.

For Angelo State, Sawyer Lloyd had 11 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.

UT Permian Basin closes the regular season, Saturday, Mar. 2 at Angelo State.  The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
