UTPB Falls On The Road

SAN ANGELO, Texas – The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team (0-3, Lone Star Conference, 3-9) lost 12-1 and 7-0 to #22 Angelo State (6-0 LSC, 15-1), Wednesday afternoon at Mayer Field.

Game - 1
In the first inning, with two outs, freshman Delaney Doelitsch doubled to right center field.  Freshman Kaylee Moses crushed a triple to dead center field to score Doelitsch for a 1-0 lead.

Starting in the second inning, Angelo State scored eight runs over the next two innings to take control.

For UT Permian Basin, Moses had two hits.  Junior Laila Vasquez (0-3) gave up seven hits, six runs and walked two in two and one-third innings.

For Angelo State, Averie Gunther (3-0) gave up four hits, one run and struck out three in four innings.

Game – 2
UTPB came out quick.  Senior Emily Andress preached on an error with one out.  Following an out, sophomore Kelsey Valo singled to move Andress to third.  Angelo State got the next batter out to end the threat.

The Rams scored seven runs over the first three innings to effectively end the game.

For UT Permian Basin, senior Destini Trahan (0-2) gave up four hits, seven runs with four earned, walked four and struck out one in two innings.

For Angelo State, Torrey Hogan (2-0) gave up one hit, walked one and struck out six in four innings.

UT Permian Basin opens the home season, Saturday, Feb. 24 against West Texas A&M.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
