GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Junior Niklas Heelein hit an NCAA B Standard as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team closed out Day 4 of the RMAC Championships, Friday at El Pomar Natatorium.
Colorado Mesa has scored 839 points and leads Colorado School of Mines by 311 points. Rounding out the top five are Oklahoma Christian (3rd – 468 points), Simon Fraser (4th - 421 points) and UTPB (5th - 292 points).
Sophomore Owen Putnam was fifth in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.26). His time was second fastest in school history.
Placing fifth was the 200-yard freestyle relay of freshman Colin Doyle, junior Szymon Gilzynski, junior Nathan Powell and senior Trevor Heath (1:23.79).

In the B finals, senior Evan Siegrist was ninth in the 200 fly (1:54.08), Powell was 10th in the 100 breaststroke (56.97 – Tied for 5th best in UTPB history) and Heelein was 13th in the 500 free (4:37.91 – NCAA B).
Earning 15th place finishes were freshman Chase Alderman in the 100 breast (58.78), senior Daniel Bednarski in the 100 backstroke (52.03), freshman Tommy Betancour in the 200 fly (2:02.04) and junior Ivan Torres in 500 free (4:42.77).
UT Permian Basin closes out the RMAC Championships, Saturday, Feb. 17. Prelims start at 10:00 a.m. with finals at 5:30 p.m.
