Falcons Fall To Silverswords

HONOLULU, Hawai'i –The University of Texas Permian Basin softball team (2-5) lost 9-2 and 7-3 to Chaminade (2-4), Wednesday at Silversword Field.

GAME 1 
Chaminade scored seven runs over the first two innings to seal the game.

In the fourth inning, UTPB broke up the shutout.  Sophomore Gabrielle Cabrera and freshman Delaney Doelitsch led off with singles.  Following an out, a wild pitch moved them one base each.

Senior Stephanie Jimenez ripped a single through the right side to score both runners.

For UT Permian Basin, Jimenez had three hits and drove in two runs.  Junior Laila Vasquez (0-2) gave up seven hits, seven runs, walked one and struck out one in 1.7 innings.

For Chaminade, Larchelle Tuifao had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three runs.  Ashley Ogata (1-1) gave up seven hits, two runs, walked one and struck out two in seven innings.

GAME 2
Heading into the fifth inning, Chaminade had a 2-0 lead.  Two errors put senior Emily Andress at third and Cabrera at second with no outs.

Sophomore Kelsey Valo ripped a single up the middle to score Andress and Cabrera to make it 2-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, junior Cheyenne Marquez was hit by a pitch.  She used aggressive running to get to third on a sacrifice bunt.

Andress singled to center field to score Marquez and put the Falcons up 3-2.  The Silverswords scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal the game.

For UT Permian Basin, Andress and junior Michaella Baker had two hits each. Freshman Morgan McGaugh (2-1) gave up nine hits, six runs with five earned, walked four and struck out four in 5.3 innings.

For Chaminade, Kamryn Lopez (1-2) struck out one batter in 1.7 innings.

UT Permian Basin remains in the Aloha State, Thursday, Feb. 15 playing Hawaii Pacific.  The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00, HPT
