Women’s soccer shutout by LCU

ODESSA, Texas (October 9, 2024) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team lost 2-0 to Lubbock Christian University on Wednesday night at the UTPB Soccer Field.

LCU scored each of its goals around the 10-minute mark into each half from Avery Jennings. The first was a great cross from Ella Spiller that found a wide open Jennings in the box.

The second goal for Jennings came after another shot for LCU hit off the crossbar and a potential goal was stopped by an offsides call. Jennings took advantage of the confusion and scored a minute later.

After falling behind 2-0 in the 56th minute, UTPB tried to force the issue offensively and outshot LCU 8-0 the rest of the way.

Kristel Chaves, Sophie Dionissiou, Natalia Salas and Cassandra Ramirez all finished with three shots for the Falcons while Dionissiou led the way with two shots on goal.

Kara Murry made five saves for the Lady Chaps, including in the 65th minute on a shot by Lara Brewis and in the 80th minute on an attempt by Dionissiou.

In the end, UTPB outshot LCU 14-8 overall, but shots on goal were even at five apiece.
