PUEBLO, Colo. (October 8, 2024) – The University of Texas Permian Basin women's golf team continued its Fall season by sending two individuals to compete at the CSU-Pueblo Fall Invite on Monday and Tuesday.
The challenging Pueblo Country Club was playing at 5,800 yards. The par-72 track will be the site of the 2026 NCAA West Regional.
Ainhoa Gurruchaga (74-77; 151) tied for seventh place in the field of 64 golfers. She was tied for third place after shooting just two-over-par during round one.
After finishing in fourth place in her first collegiate tournament three weeks ago,
Lorena Etxeberria (78-86; 164) finished in 32nd place in her second tournament.
Gurruchaga was tied for first place in the tournament in par-5 scoring (4.70; -3) while Etxeberria was tied for ninth with five birdies.
"I thought the women played extremely well," spoke Coach
Paul Chavez. "It was a very challenging golf course, especially on the greens where it played very fast with a lot of slopes. Ainhoa made some key puts and played very good golf all the way around. It was a second-straight top-10 finish for her, and she is off to a wonderful start to the year."
The team is back in action in two weeks to compete at the Midwestern State Invitational, Monday-Tuesday, October 21-22. The tournament is at the Wichita Falls Country Club.
