ALPINE, Texas (October 26, 2024) – For the third time this season, The University of Texas Permian Basin women's volleyball team took on a Lone Star Conference opponent in a rematch from the nonconference portion of the season. After winning in four sets over the Lobos in the first match of the 2024 Dr. Steve Aicinena "Iceman" Invitational back on September 12, the Falcons again won 3-1 (16-25, 25-15, 25-20, 25-10), this time around on the road.
UTPB got off to a rough start, hitting -.049 percent in the opening set before hitting over .300 percent in each of the next two sets.
The Falcons closed the second set on an 8-2 run after leading 17-13, and won four of the final five points of the third set after leading 21-19.
The defense then held the Lobos to -.111 percent hitting in the final set.
Ashlee Macias tied her career-high with 16 kills, hit .424 percent, and was one of four Falcons with seven or more digs.
Gabby Gregorski had 21 digs,
Jenna Gray had 25 assists and eight digs, and
Gloria Geurin had 15 digs while finishing second on the team with seven kills.
With the win, UTPB improves to 12-7 and 5-5 in the Lone Star Conference while SRSU falls to 2-14 and 2-8. With three more weeks left in the regular season, the Falcons find themselves in a three-team tie for seventh place in the LSC standings with Oklahoma Christian University (14-8, 5-5) and St. Mary's University (13-8, 5-5), both of which UTPB has yet to play this season.
The Falcons will look to earn back-to-back wins for the first time in conference play this season as they travel to The University of Texas at Tyler for a 6 p.m. showdown on Friday, November 1. It will then be a quick turnaround as UTPB takes on Dallas Baptist University the next day, Saturday, November 2, at 2 p.m.
