Women’s soccer earns wire-to-wire win over Sul Ross

ODESSA, Texas (October 19, 2024) – Lara Brewis found the top left corner of the net with a laser from over 20 yards out in the third minute of the match and The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team defeated Sul Ross State University 2-0 on Saturday at the UTPB Soccer Field.

UTPB (4-5-2 overall, 2-4-1 Lone Star Conference) kept the one-goal lead until the very end when adding a penalty kick goal by Laura Perez in the final minute of the match.

The Falcons outshot Sul Ross State (1-9-0, 0-7-0) 16-5 and allowed just one shot on goal on a save by Valeria Delgado in the 27th minute.

Celeste De La Rosa made eight saves for the Lobos and Cassandra Ramirez fired five shots for the Falcons.

"Today is a big win for us," said Head Coach Carla Tejas. "We acted on things that we needed to do better. That's the hardest thing to do, bring ideas to actions, consistent actions. I am proud of the girls, proud of my staff, and thankful for every person that came to support us today."

UTPB will be back on its home field on Wednesday, October 23 (7 p.m.), to host Angelo State University.
