MIDLAND, Texas – It was a dominating performance as The University of Texas Permian Basin men's swimming & diving team (4-2) beat Southwestern (Texas) (3-4) 227-45, Saturday at COM Aquatics.
The Falcons won all but two of the 16 events and went 1-2-3 in six events.
Junior Niklas Heelein hit the freestyle triple crown in winning the 100, 500 and 1000-yard freestyle (48.34, 4:54.01, 10:07.41)
Winning two events each were senior Matthew Lenzo on the 1 and 3M boards (319.05 points, 336.08 points) and senior Evan Siegrist in the 200-yard butterfly (2:01.81) and 200-yard IM (2:01.31).
Additional wins came from freshman Tommy Betancour in the 100 fly (53.16), freshman Zane Garner in 100-yard backstroke (55.92), senior Trevor Heath in the 50 free (21.53), senior Axel Torres Hecker in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:00.89), junior Legend Jankowski in the 200 back (2:00.38), junior Nathan Powell in the 200 breast (2:16.89) and the 200 free relay of senior Daniel Bednarski, freshman Chase Alderman, sophomore Issac Velasquez and Heelein (1:28.18).
UT Permian Basin is off until Feb. 13-17 when they compete at the RMAC Championships. The meet will be in Grand Junction, Colo.
