UTPB Draws With Lady Chaparrals

LUBBOCK, Texas –It was 90 minutes of hard effort as The University of Texas Permian Basin women's soccer team (2-3-2, 0-1-1 Lone Star Conference) battled to a 1-1 tie against Lubbock Christian (4-2-3, 1-1-1 LSC), Wednesday night at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.

In the first half, at the 13:03 mark, senior Madi Grace Carriello fired a shot that was saved at the last minute.  Freshman Valeria Delgado made three tough saves to keep the game deadlocked at 0-0 heading into the second half.

At the 66:53 mark, Lubbock Christian managed to sneak a goal in to lead 1-0.  Over the next nine minutes, UTPB had two great opportunities that were stopped by strong play from the keeper.

With 11:21 to go, senior Tatiana Leggiero ripped the ball into the twine to make it 1-1.  Delgado made a nice leaping save at the 87:18 mark to preserve the tie.

UT Permian Basin had 11 shots with six on goal, two corner kicks and was called for nine fouls.  Delgado finished with seven saves.

Lubbock Christian had 20 shots with eight on goal, nine corner kicks and was called for 11 fouls.

"It was a very tough game.  This is the first time in program history since we joined the LSC that we got a positive result against Lubbock Christian. All the credit goes to the young women that I get to coach. Their mentality is unmatchable, and I'm very proud of them because they get to level up our program and set standards for the future of UTPB women soccer."

UT Permian Basin returns home, Saturday, Sept. 30 taking on UT Tyler.  The game is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m.
