Park Charges On Last Day To Win Tournament

MESCALERO, N.M. – Senior Sangha Park had a very strong final round to earn medalist honors for The University of Texas Permian Basin men's golf team at the RJGA South Central Shootout, Tuesday.

The tournament was played at Inn of the Mountain Gods GC, a Par-72 with a total yardage of 7166 yards.

West Texas A&M (Receiving Votes) shot 285-285-283 to finish at -11 and win by six strokes over #17 Colorado Christian.  Rounding out the top five were #15 Colorado State Pueblo (3rd – 295-283-283 -3) UT Permian Basin (4th - 287-288-289 Even) and Colorado Mesa (5th – 285-286-294 +1).

The Falcons finished ahead of #22 Midwestern State and Western New Mexico (RV).

Individually, Park shot 70-69-67 to finish at -10 and win by six strokes over Adam Duncan of Colorado Christian, Victor Estas of West Texas A&M and Adam Niles of Western New Mexico.

This is the third tournament Park has won in his two seasons with UT Permian Basin.  His 67 was the low score of the final round and tied for second lowest in the tournament.  Park led the field with 16 birdies and in Par 4 scoring at 3.87.  He also was third in Par 3 scoring (3.08), fifth in Par 5 scoring (4.42) and had an eagle.

Senior Nolan Otto finished 17th at +1 (73-70-74).  Otto tied for first in Par 3 scoring at 3.00 and recorded 12 birdies.

Sophomore Kongpop Kaikaew ended up tied for 24th at +4 (71-74-75).

Freshman Ioan Rowe and sophomore Thonsaeng Nunya finished tied for 35th at +7.  Rowe shot 73-76-74.  Nunya (74-75-74) led the tournament with 39 pars.

Competing as an individual was junior Will Tate who tied for ninth at -3 (70-73-70).  Tate tied for first in Par 3 scoring at 3.00, tied for fifth in Par 4 scoring at 3.97 and had 14 birdies.

MGOLF RJGA 2023-24

UT Permian Basin will be in Amarillo, Texas, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 2-3 at the Ryan Palmer Invitational.  The tournament will be at Amarillo Country Club.
